El Tamarindo: For anyone who has ever dreamed of playing a course that weaves its way through jungle to ocean's edge take the next flight to Manzanillo, Mexico and then a 45 minute drive via cab or rental car north to this spectacular resort course on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Located on an ecological reserve of over two thousand acres along the Costa Alegre of the state of Jalisco this tropical course was originally routed by Robert T. Jones, Jr. However, due to preservation laws that came into effect during development, David Fleming was enlisted to finish the course. The result is a natural wonderland, untouched beyond essential routing, each hole existing idealistically unto itself. Among the natural vegetation and trees that frame the fairways, Mojote and Cuba palms are discreetly supplemented to add variety and tropical flavor. The brilliant layout takes advantage of the geological character of the coast by allowing the routing of the course to traverse the varying jungle elevations and terrain, kissing the Pacific coast in three places, each hole unique in view and play. El Tamarindo is a course that is too remote to hold a major championship or special televised event, and that is all to the good. This is a dream come true!
