Newcelle is an innovative approach to drawing for the 21st Century originally conceived by Edwin Mieczkowski, a Group Anonima originator, who's work helped define the rich brocade of possibilities of Art in the 1960's. In that tradition Mieczkowski's concept is that art is a social activity and evolves through the interaction of shared-mind made manifest by the development of images created by an untold group of individuals and artists that interact with each other through the process of creation and growth through drawing. Each drawing begins with one artist introducing a linear development (line) from the perimeter of the circle inward and circumscribing freely within the original circle and then exiting. A second artist then enters the circle with his/hers independent approach to line and draws freely with one exception. Subsequent lines never overlay former lines. Subsequent lines may interact, cross, unite, (whatever the imagination suggests), but not obliterate previous lines. A third artist produces another line and even a fourth could create another...no limitations have been established, but paper space is a practical limit. My own belief in Mieczkowski's concept stems from my evolution in designing golf courses for computer simulations of the game. In the pursuit of creating increasingly convincing environments and original courses for the game I learned that working with others (by on-line means) expands one's abilities exponentially. ...and so I have embraced Newcelle's prospect that unique and complex developments in physical drawings can grow through the interaction of contributing minds. The image above was developed by 4 artists: John Jackson (the black "Gorky-esque" line with yellow and turquoise), the very thin line by Bea Mitchell, the red line with the red circles by Mieczkowski and the blue line outlined in black by DBL.
