Westchester Country Club: This is one of the oldest and more traditional of the courses on the PGA Tour. In the 1920's the course was designed by Walter J. Travis, a three time U.S. Amateur Champion. He actually fit in 45 holes on the property, but this 18 is the West Course where the annual Buick Classic is played. The course as shown here reverses the two nines, which is how the tournament is played. The 12th is a par five for the the members, but much tougher for the pros at par 4. With changes in elevation and severe doglegs this is one of the great courses that challenges players mentally rather than physically with a premium on thoughtful strategy rather than power.
Steve Avery has done an outstanding APCD recreation of Westchester C.C. for Links 2003. The course can be downloaded for free from the Links Corner.
