Westfields: Near historic battlefields of the Civil War, this is a recent Freddy Couples design located in northern Virginia, southwest of Washington D.C. The beauty of playing here, besides the imaginative routing, is the natural environment. There are no development houses surrounding the holes to distract from nature's surroundings. The layout is fun to play and offers varied tees with great variety in hole distances, but demanding good play with every club in the bag. There are lots of elevation changes through the rolling hills. Heavily wooded forests encroach on every fairway with lakes and streams a factor on several holes. Depending on wind direction and pin placement, scoring on the back side offers better odds. Coming in there are 2 par-5's and a couple of shorter par-4's with the 14th possibly drivable. Then the par-3 17th offers a birdie opportunity if the player can avoid the lake and keep the ball on the shallow green. There the opportunities end because the 18th is the No.2 handicap hole and gives up few birds. The course is rated 73.1 from the back (Boom-boom) tees with a slope of 136.
